Codex CLI v0.159.3 rolls up two backports onto the 0.159 line since v0.159.1: the console windows that flashed on Windows when Codex launched background and sandboxed commands are suppressed, and eligible local sessions signed in with ChatGPT can now show optional reminders to complete account security setup.[1][2]
This is a small maintenance pair of point releases, both patches carried onto the 0.159 branch rather than new surface. Here is what each one does.
What Shipped#
| Change | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Windows console suppression (v0.159.2) | Codex no longer flashes a console window on Windows when it launches background processes and sandboxed commands.[1] |
| Account security reminders (v0.159.3) | Eligible local sessions signed in with ChatGPT can show optional reminders to finish account security setup.[2] |
The Windows Fix#
Codex no longer flashes a console window on Windows when it launches background processes and sandboxed commands. Before v0.159.2, those out-of-band spawns surfaced a window that flashed on screen; the release suppresses it. It affects background jobs and sandboxed shell steps, the commands Codex runs outside the foreground session.[1]
Account Security Reminders#
The 0.159.3 backport lets local sessions authenticated with a ChatGPT sign-in surface optional prompts to complete account security setup. The release note scopes this to eligible sessions and marks the reminders optional, so it is a nudge inside the login path rather than a gate on running Codex.[2]
What This Tells Us#
Both entries are backports onto the 0.159 line rather than work developed on it. On Windows, the observable change is direct: a background or sandboxed command no longer pops a console window.
The account security reminder targets sessions signed in with ChatGPT and stays optional. Scoped that way, it rides along with normal use instead of gating it.
