The September window turns on runners: a single process on your own machine that Amp drives to execute threads, serving many repos, spinning up worktrees from the composer, starting automatically inside the Mac app, and reachable by the whole workspace when launched with --share. Free Agent makes that local path free when you supply your own compute and model access, moving Amp closer to the local-first field while orbs stay for hosted work. Fable 5.1 sits behind the Dial's new ultra notch, and Steer-Don't-Queue lets you redirect a running agent mid-turn.

The August 4 build turns Amp's hosted "orb" into load-bearing product surface. New env vars handle credentials (AMP_GIT_PASSWORD, AMP_GITHUB_BOOTSTRAP_TOKEN), resource scoping (AMP_ORB_WORKLOAD_SLICE pins child processes into a systemd slice), and direct terminal attach to a running sandbox (AMP_DIRECT_TERMINAL), matching three weeks of changelog work on multiplayer, event-driven, and OIDC orbs. A real amp.attachments.upload plugin API returns hosted URLs for videos, logs, PDFs, and datasets, and claude-opus-5 plus three Gemini flash-lite tiers enter the routing table with no model picker in sight.
